What I want to try in 2011 is to grow things. I’ve never been particularly green fingered. House plants better be pretty robust or they will not last long in my house. I had a garden in the past and I paid attention to certain things ( bluebells and other flowers mainly) , but never really tried to grow very much. Soon I’ll have a garden again and I am really keen to learn a bit more about this whole gardening lark. Top of my list is to try and grow ranunculus. ( Any tips ? Is this a difficult flower ? ) I’m also hoping to grow some flowers that are not so easily found in florists to give me some new subjects. However herbs and other “easy to grow ” veggies are also in the running. Maybe I can be green fingered after all ?
The snow is melting but there is still a grey/white colour in the city. I’m much more drawn to muted quieter shades just now than normal.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’m not enjoying the reverb10 prompts quite as much as the “best of ” ones from last year. I wonder if it is harder to pull together a proper sequence of prompts when lots of people are contributing them ?
As for today’s prompt number 13 –
December 13 – Action When it comes to aspirations, it’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. What’s your next step? (Author: Scott Belsky )
I am never short of ideas and I’m not too bad at making them happen either. However sometimes there are just too many pots on the cooker or plates in the air ,so my next step is to do a little cull of current projects and decide where my focus will be for next year.
Today’s prompt from #reverb10 was what was the wisest decision you made this year and how did it pan out ?
Well , I think the wisest decision was not to get fed up looking for somewhere to live. After being pipped to the post on a couple of places it would have been easy to just go for the next remotely suitable place. However finally a really lovely place turned up that matched some wishes I didn’t even know I had . Of course I can’t report yet on how it all pans out !
Prompt: Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?
My favourite new community from 2010 has been the wonderful Granny Green’s Big Night Out – set up by Sarah ( @whoopdedoo ) and Fiona ( @Fionacstewart ) in a gorgeous cafe/venue in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town (@theLOTedinburgh) . A wonderfully relaxed evening every Monday where people meet to work on craft projects, chat, learn a few new skills, taste wines and generally get the week off to a good start.
Didn’t read the prompt properly earlier on and didn’t add which community I’d like to add for 2011 . I’d like to find my way back into a dance community. With teachers changing and people moving and just generally other things getting in the way I haven’t had a regular dance routine for the last year or so. I miss it and that’s something I’d like to put back in for 2011.
Prompt: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it? #reverb10
The last thing I made was a few more of these – using up all the supplies of wood that I have. They’ve been fun to make and eye-catching when worn. But quite time consuming for what they are with a lot of layers of paint and varnish. But I enjoy seeing my images get a life off the walls and in different formats and art that is wearable appeals to me .
I always have a few “wouldn’t it be nice to make ” thoughts on the go though. After visiting Venice my wish to do some ( more) mosaic moved up a few notches after seeing amazing work by Duschiana Bravura . The other mosaic inspiration is Candace Bahouth . Next year I will have a garden again and I am already scheming some mosaic activity.
Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors).
Very hard to choose just one moment. But the one depicted in this little video is up there on the list. Venice early in the morning, bathed in a beautiful golden light. Watching the city wake up.
( And final Newsletter mention for this month – I’ll send out a second batch tomorrow, so still time to catch this issue here – plus a lot of digital downloads to print out as a bonus.)
December 2 Writing.
What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
(Author: Leo Babauta)
I’ll subsitute “creative work” for just writing. I check my emails and other online communications too frequently. I can, if not completely eliminate it, at least not check emails before 12 noon , something I did for a while and which was very beneficial. And deal with all other online activity in allocated time slots not just “whenver the mood strikes”.
My latest Studio Newsletter just went out. If you’d still like a copy you can subscribe here and also get a whole lot of printable downloads as a bonus. I’ll send out a second batch of the newsletter tomorrow.
