Now that Sinterklaas is out of the way, the Dutch have been throwing themselves into Christmas decoration. And I am having to revise a few of my beliefs. I always thought that the Dutch brought their trees inside on Christmas eve, but apparently this is not the case, judging by all the houses along my street. Very big and very sparkly and installed right after Sint took the steamship back to Spain. Apparently they are quickly out the door after Christmas too, not with the 12 days grace usual in the UK.
Even so, I couldn’t quite bring myself to have a proper tree this early, and since we will be in Scotland over Christmas I hit on a very nice alternative. These quirky trees are made by Ingrid from Wood and Wool Stools. Nicely eco , it will come out again next year, in another place and remind me of this lovely Dutch year. You can find them at her Etsy shop here. And if you are not in the market for a tree she also does really lovely little stools with crocheted covers. You can also see more of them on her blog .
In the way of the internet it wasn’t an entirely random thing, coming across these wooden trees, but more on that tomorrow.
