Spotlight on the Frittilary

Snake's Head FritillaryOne of the fun things about a new garden ( that someone else has already planted up ) is waiting and watching to see what appears. So I was really delighted to see this Snake’s Head Fritillary put in an appearance. I recognise it most of all from Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s drawings ( they are in the Hunterian Art Gallery in Glasgow ) but it is a native wild flower for the UK and Europe – the BBC gardening site has this to say. Of course I have lots of ideas of things I’d like to see growing here, or particulary flowering here – but this was an early bonus.  On the next bright day I’ll take a Polaroid of this lovely flower.

My next Studio Newsletter will be out this week , if you’d like a copy ( and some freebie printables to download ) you can sign up here .
