Mairi Lucas Jewellery at Newington Library, Edinburgh.

One of the great things about coming out of the studio into the big wide world is that you meet all kinds of other interesting people. There is a second exhibition running at the same time as our exhibition – making use of the glass display cases in the library.

This time the display is a new range of jewellery by Mairi Lucas. Originally trained in Fashion Design at Edinburgh College of Art,  Mairi has been working with polymer clay for the last few years. They are  not yet available online, but I’m hoping she will set up an Etsy shop sometime soon so that her designs can reach a wider audience. So this is a chance for anyone in Edinburgh to see her work first.  If you’d like to purchase something from the exhibition you can contact her by email  to arrange things.

In addition to the jewellery Mairi also has a range of little cards that co -ordinate beautifully. The exhibition is  on for 2 more weeks so you still have a little time to pay a visit.

And once you’ve gone to the library, if you need a little sustenance afterwards I can thoroughly recommend another new discovery.  The “Yum” cafe at Earthy Food Market. Scrubbed wooden tables upstairs, an extra room downstairs and tables outside for sunny days. As you would expect from a place selling local seasonal produce the dishes are fresh and tasty. There is also a very tempting cake selection. This isn’t a part of town I often visit, but I think I’ll be finding a few more excuses to go here in future.

And the next issue of my Studio Newsletter with work in progress and creative snippets will be out soon too – don’t miss it by subscribing here .
